The ability to deploy match-compatible interfaces and retain critical pin configurations provides an opportunity for cost savings when deploying new and upgraded equipment. For example, the backplane and chassis may be designed to allow the installation and continued use of existing legacy daughter cards, line cards or blades, and new or future high-speed modular cards.
