On-then-break spring-type connectors Mill-Max's layered contact layout for applications requiring sequential connections Mill-Max's on-then-break spring-type connectors Mill-Max expands its spring-type offerings to include single-row and double-row "on-then-break" (FMLB) connectors. These connectors support applications where electrical signals must be connected and disconnected sequentially rather than all signals at once, such as hot swapping or hot swapping. A common use of FMLB connectors is to ensure a ground path is established before any other power or signal connection. This is done to eliminate stray currents that can damage equipment or components. During hot plug or hot exchange, if ground contact is not first established, the circuit may generate an equalization current that seeks a low resistance path. These currents can flow between devices or components, causing damage and failure. Similarly, the ground path remains connected when disconnected until all other signals are de-energized. In other applications, the FMLB connector can be used to power an indicator light or send a warning signal before the main circuit of the device is powered on. The possible applications are diverse. This product version includes six connectors, each consisting of three unique configurations, each in single-row and double-row versions, all with 0.100 "(2.54 mm) centering pins. Single-row models have pins higher in the first and last positions; The double row version has four taller pins, two at each end. Four SMT and two through-hole connector options are available. The low-profile SMT version (811/813 series) has a maximum pin initial height of 0.217 "(5.51 mm) and a height difference of 0.020" (0.51 mm) from the remaining pins; The 812/814 series offers an initial height of 0.288 "(7.32 mm), a height difference of 0.033" (0.84 mm), and a maximum travel of 0.090 "(2.3 mm) on the longer end prongs to support greater compression capacity. The initial height of the highest pin of the through-hole connector (825/827 series) is 0.332 "(8.43 mm), the height difference is 0.030" (0.76 mm), and the maximum travel of each pin is 0.090 "(2.3 mm). Featuring gold-plated spring pins, these connectors feature precision-machined external elements and high reliability internal springs to ensure the highest conductivity, corrosion resistance and durability. The pins are rated at 2 amps and the connector housing is molded from high-temperature thermoplastic for most soldering processes.
