RF coaxial connector is one of the precision instruments, so it should be used carefully, not only to prolong life, but also to facilitate subsequent connection. This paper starts with six details of using coaxial cables and connectors, and introduces the usage methods that should be paid attention to. 1. Do not fix RF connectors with pliers Almost all sizes of RF connectors have a suitable wrench. Of course, this refers to the plug of the hex nut, while the round nut can be removed by hand. Regardless of needle nose pliers or vises, the accurate torque of the connector cannot be grasped, and the connector may be damaged. A torque wrench must be used to secure the joint. Many hexagonal connectors with a screw socket size of 8mm can be tightened and disassembled with a torque wrench, and the fixed torque can be less than the specified torque, but not greater. 2. Try not to use RF adapters and test cables that are much higher than the current test frequency. For example, when testing the drift signal of a cellular base station (typically 12.75 GHz is required), an 18 GHz SMA interface test cable and adapter may be used instead of a 40 GHz 2.92 mm interface cable and adapter. 3. Do not use the adapter calibrated by the adapter being calibrated in general testing. The return loss of these precision adapters is usually less than-34dB and can only be used for direct calibration of S-parameter measurement, not for conversion of normal testing. 4. When taking the correct operating posture to unplug the test cable assembly from the device, please be sure to grasp the connector and do not unplug it from the cable root. This can easily lead to problems with cable and splice connections. 5. Put a protective cap on the adapter. The male threaded connector is prone to wear. The screw can easily deform if it is accidentally dropped to the ground. Therefore, it is best to easily wear a plastic hard hat on the connector after use. At the same time, it can play the role of shockproof. 6. Pay attention to cleaning the RF connector. Connectors must be cleaned with cotton swabs containing alcohol, but do not use cotton swabs to clean the internal conductors of air media connectors (e.g. 3.5 mm, 2.92 mm, etc.). The above describes some precautions for RF coaxial connectors.
